Over the last several years our parish and schools have hosted a number of dynamic young orders of religious sisters, including the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal and the Sisters of Life. Their vibrant faith, wide learning, and cheerful enthusiasm have never failed to impress our students, parents, teachers, and parishioners.
We’re delighted to announce that one such vibrant young Order, the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, has decided to join our schools in our ongoing mission of educating the young people entrusted to our care. We will be welcoming the sisters when the new school year begins in September. The Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist trace their founding to the New York area, under the auspices of the former Archbishop of New York, Cardinal John O’Connor. Since that time, they have grown enormously. They currently send sisters to teach in Catholic schools throughout our country. Their Dominican charism places strong emphasis on teaching and the various intellectual apostolates of the Church. Their commitment to academic excellence mirrors our own, and their devotion to the Eucharist and Our Lady is a wonderful complement to our similar tradition here at St. Mary’s.
The Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist will be residing at St. Hyacinth Parish in Glen Head, NY. A video of the formal announcement by Bishop Barres can be found below. The choice of St. Mary’s is a mark of the Bishop’s confidence in St. Mary’s vision of a liberal arts education in the Catholic intellectual tradition as well as your ongoing support for the implementation of that vision. There will be more details to share as we approach the new school year, but we’re sure you will agree this is absolutely wonderful news and a great blessing for our schools.
Please join us in thanking God for this wonderful sign of His favor!
Sincerely,
Fr. Robert A. Romeo Pastor
