Mrs. Salzman's Fourth Grade Summer Assignment

You will be reading 2 books for your ELA summer assignment.

1. Pick one book from the non-fiction titles below:

Elizabeth Blackwell: Girl Doctor by Joanne Landers Henry

Charles Drew: Doctor Who Got the World Pumped up to Donate Blood by M. Venezia

If You Traveled on the Underground Railroad by E. Levine and L. Johnson

If You Lived When there was Slavery in America by A. Kamma and P. Johnson

The Iroquois: The Six Nations Confederacy by Mary Englar

 2. Pick one book from the fiction titles below:

Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White

Matilda by Roald Dahl

All the Way Home by Patricia Reilly Giff

The Hope Chest by Karen Schwabach

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

On my St. Mary’s homepage, click on resources and open the book report folder (documents can also be found below). Download the appropriate book report form (fiction or non-fiction).  This form is a template for your final product. You may do the actual report on loose leaf or on a computer. As there are many parts to the report and little room to respond, it would be best if the final copy of your report was done on your version of the template.

Work carefully to complete the book reports on the books read. Many of the questions on the report forms will be new concepts. Do your best to answer them. Research any concepts that are not understood or use the resources available to you in the book report folder, on my website. Bring the completed book reports, with the appropriate rubric attached, with you on the first day of school.

Also, on an index card, please list the titles and authors of the two books that you read. Have your parent sign the card after writing: “My signature below indicates that I have observed my child reading the two books chosen during the summer of 2017.”
