7th-Gr ELA includes reading, writing, speaking, and listening. To develop their written expression, students will focus on the writing process for the upper grades, including awareness of audience, purpose, and tone. Students will write for various purposes and learn to master creative, analytical, and interpretive styles throughout the year. To develop reading skills, students will engage in close reading techniques with various literary works and practice critical thinking and verbal expression, before, during, and after reading. Often times, students will combine writing and literature with extended response questions, essays, and creative projects. At times, students will be grouped and expected to engage in collaborative tasks.
